Photographer's Bio:
Dean L. Barnes is a U.S. Virgin Islands based freelance photographer.  He specializes in marine and travel photography.

His photographic credits include:  The New York Times Sunday Edition; Outdoor Magazine; Southern Boating Magazine; Child Life Magazine (cover and feature); Caribbean Travel and Life; Sail Magazine; Marlin Magazine; Latitudes South; Caribbean Week; Fancy Food Magazine; All at Sea; Tropic Times; the Islands' Nautical Scene; the Virgin Islands Daily News; the Weekly Journal and American Way Magazine.

His photographs have appeared on calendars, the internet, and postcards.  Most recently, a collection of Barnes' images were selected to illustrate "USVI America's Virgin Islands" by Arlene Martel and published by Macmillan Books.

Born in Saudi Arabia to American parents employed by the Arabian American Oil Company (ARAMCO), Barnes earned a BS degree from Syracuse University's Newhouse School of Journalism and his JD degree from New York Law School.  He is currently an active member of the Virgin Islands Bar Association and is employed as an Assistant Attorney General with the Virgin Islands Department of Justice.  He has traveled extensively throughout the Middle East, Europe, Asia, the United States and the Caribbean before settling on St. Thomas in 1979.  Barnes has been developing his photography over the last five years, spurred by the desire to illustrate his partner's, Carol Bareuther, written work.  Carol and Dean have two children ages 8 and 5.

In addition to photography and law, Barnes works as a consultant in web and computer assisted design, layout and photo-manipulation.
