Westin Resort Upholds "Green Initiatives"
The Westin Resort, St. John, actively contributes to the protection of the delicate ecosystems and environment of the United States Virgin Islands. Currently, the resort has many eco-friendly practices, including: a reverse osmosis water production plant; an energy recovery turbin; and a Zenon membrane wastewater treatment plant. The reverse osmosis water production plant successfully converts oceanwater into freshwater. Any freshwater that is not used by the 285-room resort is donated to a variety of on-island charities or sold to local trucking companies and distributed to additional areas in need of freshwater. The Westin Resort, St. John, is also home to the only Zenon membrane wastewater treatment plant in the Caribbean. The plant filters the resort's wastewater, chlorinates the water and then sends it to a gray-water cistern where it is later used to irrigate the beautiful grounds surrounding the property.
